Shedeur Sanders is not having the best start to life as an NFL rookie.
The former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback had an awful draft experience, having slipped all the way to Round 5 following first-round projections, which prompted the construction of a swagged-out draft room.
Making matters worse was that embarrassing prank call that had him thinking the New Orleans Saints were taking him earlier.
There’s also his recent legal trouble involving traffic stops. But, according to a former NFL wide receiver, that’s not all.
TJ Houshmandzadeh was a recent guest on ‘Nightcap’ with host Shannon Sharpe, where he cited a Cleveland Browns employee, who told him that Shedeur isn’t even being considered for the starting job.
TJ noted that the two top candidates are rookie Dillon Gabriel and former Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles QB Kenny Pickett.
“I was told from somebody that is in the building that ain’t a player, it’s really coming down to Kenny Pickett or Dillon Gabriel,” Houshmandzadeh said.
He added:
“That’s what I was told. But now when you get the reports that Shedeur’s completing seven out of nine passes – is it against starters?
“Or is it against the threes and the fours, the guys that are going to get released? So it seems impressive when you see the graphic, but is it really if it’s not against the starters or guys that are going to be on the team?”
Sanders is said to have impressed in training so far, but reports are claiming his roster spot isn’t guaranteed. Another source noted that he was behind Pickett, Gabriel, and Flacco in the pecking order.
Still, head coach Kevin Stefanski claims to be impressed by both players.
Those guys are doing great,” Stefanski said earlier in June.
“They are both wired to get in early, stay late, put in whatever work is required. They’re sponges in the meeting room, which I think is really fun for me.”
