Shedeur Sanders is going to have a second coach in his second year in the league.

On Black Monday, several head coaches around the league lost their jobs. The Atlanta Falcons wasted no time as they cut ties with Raheem Morris after two seasons. Then the Arizona Cardinals gave Jonathan Gannon his walking papers.

The Cleveland Browns also made a change when they fired Kevin Stefanski. It was a tenure marked by controversy and a string of losing games. Many fans thought he might be trying to sabotage Shedeur Sanders.

Sanders was asked for his thoughts merely moments after the Cleveland Browns fired Kevin Stefanski.

“We just found out a couple of seconds ago,” Sanders said. “I think it’s overall the mentality, like, things are going to happen. It’s how the league is. Moving forward, just focus on what we can improve individually for the next head coach.”

The Browns fired Stefanski after a 5-12 finish this season and six years at the helm.

After Sunday’s regular-season finale, Sanders explained that he and Stefanski “grew to understand each other.”

“We would share different things that we would both go through,” Sanders told reporters. “I know he wanted this win, and I know he wants every win, but I know that this one means a lot.

Shedeur Sanders finished his rookie campaign with a 3-4 record as a starter. He produced 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns, 10 interceptions, and a 56.6% completion percentage. The fifth-round selection in the 2025 NFL Draft may have done enough for the team to keep him as the starter.

Stefanski went 45-56 in six seasons with Cleveland, making the playoffs twice. He led the team to a Wild Card round win over Pittsburgh in 2020.
