On Sunday, Shedeur Sanders became the first Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback to win in their debut since 1995. After the win, though, Sanders was sure to remind everyone why it’s taken him until Week 12 to see the field in the first place.
In the win, Shedeur Sanders completed 11 passes for 209 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Not exactly Cam Newton’s debut performance of 422 yard and two touchdowns, now is it?
Nevertheless, after the game, Sanders displayed the behavior that we’ve come to expect from the young QB, as his postgame interview oozed the immaturity that’s made him such a divisive prospect in the first place.
“A win is crazy, it’s amazing, you know,” Sanders began before looking into the camera and saying, “Off of one week of practice, you know what I mean? This is one week of practice. So imagine, you know, what a full offseason look like? It get dangerous. But it’s just one week of practice, so I’m just truly thankful that everything happened.”

Maybe I’m just being a hater millennial, which is now slowly but surely becoming the updated version of “Okay, boomer.” And if that’s the case, so be it — age comes for us all sooner or later.
But, to me, looking into the camera like it’s a WWE match after beating arguably the worst team in the NFL in the Las Vegas Raiders, while also taking all of the credit and sharing none of it with the defense — which had 10 SACKS (!!!) in the game — only epitomizes why Sanders slipped so far in the draft and while he’ll struggle to ever become a true franchise quarterback. He also should be worrying about next week, not *next season* and the offseason that prefaces it.
On that flip side of that coin, in the win over the lowly Raiders, Sanders completed three passes of at least 35 yards, which is two more than the Browns have previously had over the course of the entire season, suggesting that the rookie QB does have a bit of offensive spark to offer.
Should Sanders remain the starting QB, next week will prove to be a much more difficult test as they’ll be hosting the San Francisco 49ers and its Robert Saleh-coached defense.
