Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders created a buzz on Saturday by comparing himself to none other than the most decorated player in NFL history.
Shedeur Sanders was widely projected to be a top-10 selection in the 2025 NFL Draft. But in one of the most stunning developments in draft history, the Colorado product fell out of the first four rounds before the Browns finally selected him in round five at No. 144 overall.
Speaking on Logan Paul’s “IMPAULSIVE” podcast, Tom Brady revealed that he texted Sanders after his draft slide to, “Use it as motivation.” Brady, the greatest draft steal of all time, wasn’t selected until the sixth round at No. 199 overall by the New England Patriots in 2000.
Sanders spoke to reporters at day two of Browns rookie minicamp on Saturday, where he promised to have a story “similar” to that of the seven-time Super Bowl champion
“My story is going to be similar,” a confident Sanders said.

Most scouts and analysts had Shedeur Sanders as the No. 2 quarterback in this year’s class, behind eventual No. 1 pick Cam Ward. But when all was said and done, five quarterbacks were taken before Deion Sanders’ son: Ward, Jaxson Dart, Tyler Shough, Jalen Milroe and Dillon Gabriel.
It’s rather stunning how many of the NFL’s all-time great quarterbacks weren’t highly-touted before turning pro. Joe Montana was a third-round draft pick. Kurt Warner was undrafted. Brett Favre was a second-round pick. Roger Staubach was a 10th-round pick, and Steve Young didn’t break out until his second stop with the San Francisco 49ers.
