Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders went just 4-of-16 for 47 yards and an interception in his NFL debut on Sunday against the Batimore Ravens.
And while NFL insiders and former league MVPs are already lining up to make excuses for him, it’s clear that Sanders’ play simply wasn’t good enough, regardless of the circumstances.
But as it turns out, Sanders’ horrendous debut wasn’t even the worst part of his Sunday.
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that there was a break-in at Sanders’ home during the game between the Ravens and Browns. Florio did not have specifics on the nature of break-in, or what was stolen, but it continues a troubling trend among NFL players.
Last year, both Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, as well as Joe Burrow, had their homes burglarized while they were away playing NFL games.
The string of burglaries eventually led to the FBI getting involved and advising NFL players to be more aware of and active in home security measures.
Police report that $20,000 in cash was taken from Kelce’s home.
“Our sources tell us the feds would NOT get involved if this were a run of the mill burglary spree on the local level,” TMZ reported at the time, “and the FBI’s involvement here indicates the case could involve organized crime crossing state lines.”
Four Chilean men were later arrested in connection with the break-in and burglary at Burrow’s home. However, the men were not connected to the crimes involving Mahomes and Kelce.
Neither Sanders nor the Cleveland Browns has issued a statement on the latest incident. Sanders could well make his full NFL debut against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday if Gabriel does not clear concussion protocol.
