In high school, Shavon Revel, Jr. was not only a talented defensive back but a prolific receiver. Along with excelling on the football field, he lettered in track and field as a sprinter, long jumper, and high jumper. He was a three-star prospect that attended Louisberg College for two years. After impressing the East Carolina staff at a camp by running a 4.4 40-yard dash and posting an 11’ broad jump, they took a chance on him in 2022. That season, he saw action in nine games for the Pirates, mostly on special teams.
2023 would be Revel, Jr.’s breakout year. He earned Second-Team All-AAC honors after 54 total tackles, four TFLs, a sack, an interception, a fumble return for a touchdown, 13 PBUs, and two blocked field goals. Many had Revel, Jr. pegged for a first round selection in the NFL draft as he looked to build on this performance in 2024, but a torn ACL ended his season early.
The Commanders’ cornerback group was a work in progress throughout the season. Although Mikey Sainristil was a rookie standout, his play along with Benjamin St-Juste, Noah Igbinoghene, and Michael Davis led Adam Peters to trade for an injured Marshon Lattimore midseason. While he helped, he also had his struggles against star receivers like Mike Evans and A.J. Brown. St-Juste, Igbinoghene, and Davis will be free agents, and the Commanders must find talent this offseason to improve this group.
Although he is coming off an injury, Shavon Revel, Jr. is being regarded as a Day 1 or early Day 2 pick. He has size and athleticism, makes plays on the ball, and does his part in the run game.
