ESPN hosted its annual ESPY awards on Wednesday night, and as usual, all the stars were in attendance, representing sports across the globe. It wasn’t just athletes who were front and center; there were also other celebrities in action, such as comedian host Shane Gillis, who masterfully weaved several sports-related jokes throughout his humorous monologue.

But Gillis wasn’t limited to just entertaining the audience for a few introductory minutes. He also had a few more punchy jokes on the spot, including one he claims he didn’t even write about Deshaun Watson.

“Put your hands where my eyes can see, is what they say when Deshaun Watson gets a massage,” Gillis said.

Okay, so if Gillis didn’t write the Watson joke, then who did? Was it someone at ESPN? It seems a bit odd that a national sports network would target a current NFL player, though being able to do so anonymously and hide behind the comedic mouthpiece that Gillis provides certainly offers an easy escape.

Either way, ESPN is in the entertainment business, and they clearly felt jokes about the Browns’ QB’s controversial past were what would hit.

A few other trending topics Gillis addressed were Caitlin Clark’s WNBA scrums, Jeffrey Epstein, the Philadelphia Eagles’ introduction of the Tush Push, and several others. In other words, no one was safe, and seemingly nothing was off limits during ESPN’s ESPYs broadcast.
