Seven alleged members of a South American Theft Group (SATG) that burglarized the homes of professional athletes have been charged with the crimes. During the crime spree, more than $2 million worth of valuables were stolen from the athletes’ homes. If convicted of the crimes, each of the men faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison.

Pablo Zuniga Cartes, Ignacio Zuniga Cartes, Bastian Jimenez Freraut, Jordan Quiroga Sanchez, Bastian Orellano Morales, Alexander Huiaguil Chavez, and Sergio Ortega Cabello, all from Chile, were all charged this week with conspiracy to commit interstate transportation of stolen property. Four of the men, Sanchez, Morales, Cabello and Chavez, were arrested last month when a Ohio State Highway Patrol officer pulled them over for committing a lane violation after investigators who were surveilling them witnessed them leaving a La Quinta Inn.

Inside their vehicle, police found a LSU t-shirt and Bengals hat believed to have been stolen from Joe Burrow’s home. Investigators also identified a tool that had been used by a South American Theft Group to break glass and enter homes. A search warrant conducted on one of Sanchez’s phones also revealed he was in the area of Burrow’s home at the time of the burglary, and DNA found on a black bag of tools left at the scene of Burrow’s home burglary tied two of the four suspects to the crime.

According to a Department of Justice (DOJ) media release, the seven men are members of a South American Theft Group that burgled the homes of NFL players Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, NBA stars Bobby Portis and Mike Conley, and an unamed Tampa Bay Buccaneers player. The same burglary ring is also suspected of robbing the homes of NFL player Linval Joseph, NBA players Luka Doncic and Karl-Anthony Towns, as well as Dallas Stars hockey player Tyler Seguin.

On December 9, 2024, the Cincinnati home of a Cincinnati Bengals player was burglarized while the team played Arlington, Texas. Designer luggage, glasses, watches, and jewelry valued at about $300,000 was stolen. Sergio Ortega Cabello rented a vehicle used in the burglary.

Between the late afternoon on December 19, 2024, and the early morning of December 20, 2024, the Tennessee home of a Memphis Grizzlies player was burglarized while the team played in Memphis, Tennessee. Jewelry, watches, and luxury bags valued at about $1 million were stolen.

Four of the alleged thieves posed for a photo in Joe Burrow’s home, showing off some of the stolen goods. In another photo, four of the men are seen inside one of the Chiefs’ players homes holding several luxury watches as they posed by a safe. One of the alleged thieves is wearing a Chiefs shirt.
