The Seattle Seahawks were already one of the league’s hottest teams entering Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline, which expires at 4 p.m. ET. Yet, on deadline day, the Seahawks decided to make a move that could make the NFL’s fifth-highest-scoring offense even better.
According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the Seahawks have agreed to trade for All-Pro returner/wide receiver Rashid Shaheed from the New Orleans Saints. The Seahawks sent 2026 fourth and fifth-round picks to New Orleans in exchange for their new weapon.
Shaheed was long rumored to be available by a Saints team that has stumbled out to just a 1-8 start thus far. Playing on an expiring contract, the 27-year-old former undrafted free agent signing was a prime candidate to be moved by deadline day.
Despite playing for a woeful Saints offense, Shaheed is in the midst of a career year, recording 55.4 yards per game. That puts him on pace for a 941-yard season. But so far he’s up to 44 receptions for 499 yards and two touchdowns.
He’ll add yet another speed threat to a dangerous Seahawks offense led by Sam Darnold, who likely won’t waste any time targeting his new deep ball specialist. Joining Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Cooper Kupp, the Seahawks have made an already great receiving corps even better ahead of their playoff push.
