Seattle Seahawks Release Former First-Round Pick

We’ve seen the Seattle Seahawks make a series of changes this offseason. Perhaps none was bigger than trading Geno Smith away so they could sign new starting quarterback Sam Darnold in free agency. Yet, that was just the start of several more roster changes.

The Seahawks also added several potentially impactful players in the 2025 NFL Draft. Now, one of the newcomers is pushing one of last year’s starters off the roster.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Seahawks have released former first-round pick Noah Fant. After arriving in 2022 via the Russell Wilson trade, Fant went on to start 42 games with the Seahawks.

However, now that he’s been released, Fant’s departure clears the way for Seattle’s second-round rookie Elijah Arroyo to see a bigger role. If anything, Arroyo just became the favorite to start for the Seahawks, where he has a chance to have a huge season catching passes from Darnold.

The Seahawks also have veteran free agent addition Eric Saubert and 2024 fourth-round pick AJ Barner on the roster. While Seattle may have already seen enough from Arroyo, he’ll certainly have his work cut out for him this fall.

Meanwhile, it shouldn’t take long for the athletic Fant to receive another opportunity. Still just 27 years old, Fant has played for the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks, and now he’ll have a chance to find a third team to join.
