The Seattle Seahawks had some fun with one of their rookies ahead of the NFL Playoffs in the form of a fake dinner tab. Nick Emmanwori received a brief scare upon getting the bill.
The initial check was believed to be six figures. While that first charge was part of a practical joke, the first-year safety was still on the hook for a pricy payout.
NFL rookie dinners are a tradition that have been passed down throughout the years. Teammates gather together for a nice meal and cocktails before veterans leave the tab to a first-year player newly flush with cash.
Emmanwori was the latest victim.
The defender posted a video of the night out to his Instagram story. “Pull out the AmEx,” teammates can be heard shouting in the background.
The camera flashed to show the check total, which read $114,566. Luckily for this rookie, that wasn’t the actual amount.
That first tab was part of a prank that Emmanwori wasn’t in on. It was later revealed that the bill was really $22,524.
The rookie defensive back played his college ball at the University of South Carolina where he developed into an All-SEC performer.
A big-bodied member of the secondary, he boasts both size and athleticism. With the Gamecocks, he was a starter upon stepping foot on campus. He racked up 244 tackles and six interceptions across three seasons in Columbia, returning two of those turnovers for scores.

After his junior year, he declared for the NFL Draft. He was selected early in the second round to become a future member of the Seattle secondary.
Emmanwori signed a four-year deal worth $11.6 million this past offseason. That comes out to an average annual salary of just under $3 million.
In 2025, his base pay was $840,000. That total was added to a signing bonus of a little more than $5 million to bring his first-year earnings to $5.9 million.
He’ll have a chance to bank some more money in the postseason.
Seattle earned the No. 1 seed in the NFC by going 13-3 in the regular season. As a result, they’ll receive a bye in the opening round.
Playoff success comes with certain perks. Most notably, a boost in pay.
