Maybe the Jets aren’t so bad after all
I guess I have to state the obvious: the 2024 New York Jets have been quite bad. A 4-10 record is all the support we need to defend that point.
However, in watching the games, they’re competitive more often than not and that gets lost in the general stink that has been this season.
And by no means am I going to try to “it’s not so bad” away this season. This season has stunk. It has been one of the least enjoyable New York Jets viewing experiences that I can recall.
However, being competitive matters, especially if we’re thinking forward towards 2025. Indeed, it’s much better to be building from a competitive bad roster than it is to be building from a noncompetitive bad roster. The Jets expected points added on both sides of the ball is pretty middle of the pack.
In this plot, further right means a team is better on offense and further up means a team is better on defense. As shown here, the New York Jets are pretty middle of the pack, not far from playoff contenders like the Arizona Cardinals and Los Angeles Rams.
So, hey, there’s always next year, right? Based on this, maybe next year will indeed show improvement. Maybe they aren’t all that far away after all.
