This was a no-brainer for both teams and will be the best uniform matchup of the year.
The Seattle Seahawks and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are celebrating 50 seasons in the NFL in the most awesome way possible.
When we last reported on the Seahawks making their Oct. 5 home matchup against the Buccaneers as a ‘50th Season Game’ celebration, this was our closing paragraph:
I don’t know whether or not double throwbacks are allowed by the NFL, but the only way for this 50th anniversary game to work is if the Buccaneers are also allowed to wear their classic ‘Creamsicle’ uniforms.
Answer? Hell yes they are.
The Seahawks confirmed on Thursday that not only will the team don their throwbacks, but so will the Buccaneers.
When the Seahawks and Buccaneers meet in Week 5, fans will be transported back in time, as both teams will be donning their Throwback uniforms. Seattle will be wearing their 90s inspired Royal Blue and Apple Green uniforms, while Tampa Bay will be in their White Creamsicle jerseys, bringing back their original 1976 uniform design. The team announced earlier this week the return of the jersey.
It’s a little unfortunate that the Bucs won’t be able to wear their iconic home orange Creamsicle jerseys instead of the white ones, but it’s the concept that counts.
Seattle’s first regular season win came in Tampa, as the Seahawks won only two games that years and the Bucs dropped their first 26. These sides have met fairly infrequently even when Seattle moved back to the NFC in 2002. Seahawks-Buccaneers has been played 15 times, with each of the last two games at Lumen Field ending in Seahawks OT wins. There was a five-year stretch from 2006-2010 when Seattle and Tampa Bay squared off annually, but there were no Seahawks-Bucs matchups for the whole of the 1980s.
It’s a shame that this game will only get regional TV coverage as a 1:05 pm kickoff on CBS. Hopefully the throwbacks and tributes to 1976 also do not involve the quality of the on-field product.
Get hyped for Week 5, because this is coming soon!
