Field Gulls
It couldn’t have started any better for the Seattle Seahawks. Rashid Shaheed took the opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown. The San Francisco 49ers turned it over on downs on the ensuing possession, leading to a short field and a Seahawks field goal. A Jake Tonges fumble forced by Ernest Jones and recovered by Julian Love led to an even shorter field and a touchdown pass from Sam Darnold to Jaxon Smith-Njigba. All of that was in the first quarter!
The second quarter wasn’t as good. San Francisco cut into the lead with consecutive field goals, and the 49ers were about to get a key defensive stop after Zach Charbonnet was stopped (and injured) on 3rd and 1. A costly penalty on Jordan Elliott led to the drive staying alive, and Rashid Shaheed’s big run, Jake Bobo’s big catch, and Kenneth Walker’s touchdown increased a 17-0 first quarter lead into a 24-6 halftime lead.
Don’t let up! Keep going!
