Seahawks try out 3 tight ends, including a former draft pick

The Seattle Seahawks brought in three tight ends for tryouts, just days after waiving (with an injury designation) Harrison Bryant. One of these names should be familiar to Seahawks fans.

Per the NFL transaction wire, Seattle met with the following players:

• Josiah Deguara, best known for his time with the Green Bay Packers (2020-2023) and most recently of the Arizona Cardinals.
• Nick Muse, former Minnesota Vikings seventh-round pick (2022) whose last stint was on the New York Jets practice squad. He’s also the brother of former Seahawks linebacker Tanner Muse.
• Nick Vannett, a 2016 Seahawks third-round draft pick who spent four seasons with Seattle and has bounced around the league. His last team was the Los Angeles Rams, home to fellow former Seahawks TE Colby Parkinson.

Seattle has invested heavily at the tight end position as a focal point of the offense. A.J. Barner is the lead tight end who’s coming off a strong second season, as well as a couple of offseason surgeries after playing through some injuries. Elijah Arroyo had an injury-hampered rookie year but figures to be more involved as a receiver in this year’s offense.

Veteran Eric Saubert is a blocking tight end whose biggest play of his life was a two-point conversion which more or less won the Seahawks the NFC West. Nick Kallerup deputized for Saubert when he missed time due to injury, and the second-year undrafted player will be battling for a roster spot alongside undrafted rookie Lance Mason out of Wisconsin.

We’ll see if any of these tryouts land a contract to essentially replace Bryant on the depth chart.
