Seahawks Snap Reactions: Derion Kendrick steps up with Devon Witherspoon out
Field Gulls Field Gulls

Sunday the Seattle Seahawks logged their first win of the 2025 season, stomping the hated Pittsburgh Steelers 31-17 in a game that was tied heading into the fourth quarter before the Hawks pulled away.

On the offensive side of the ball, the ground attack got going behind Ken Walker’s best game in a long time, with the help of a very solid performance from a young offensive line that appears to be coming together quickly.

There’s no question that the Steelers defense came into the game with several question marks due to multiple injuries, but there is also no questioning the results the unit provided. Up next for the group will be the New Orleans Saints, the former employer of offensive line coach John Benton and run game coordinator Rick Dennison, and an opportunity for the group to demonstrate that its Week 2 performance was not a fluke.

Amusingly, because of Charbonnet’s role on passing downs in the Seattle offense, he logged 36 offensive snaps compared to just 23 for Ken Walker, even though Walker outrushed the other 95 players who dressed for the game, running for 105 of the 189 yards the two teams recorded on the ground.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Seahawks came into the game with questions about the ability of the secondary to perform in the absence of both Devon Witherspoon and Nick Emmanwori. Josh Jobe and Derion Kendrick both stepped up to answer those questions with big games, and should they continue to perform in a similar manner over the remainder of the season, they could set themselves up for a nice pay day in the offseason when they reach free agency.

Also of note on defense was Uchenna Nwosu logging his first 16 snaps of the season. It’s certainly far from a full workload, but after the injuries he’s battled over the past two seasons, it’s certainly a welcome sight.

On special teams, Brady Russell continues to lead the pack in snaps, with Chazz Surratt, Drake Thomas, Ty Okada and George Holani not far behind. Also noteworthy when it comes to the special teams snaps is that while Dareke Young saw what would considered to be a normal number of special teams snaps, 15, in his return from a hamstring injury, Jake Bobo played just eight special teams snaps in his first game back since suffering a concussion during the preseason.

And now it’s on to Week 3 and the winless New Orleans Saints.
