The Seattle Seahawks only had three inside linebackers on their initial 53-man roster, so it’s no surprise they’ve been busy looking for players for the active roster and practice squad.

NFL insider Mike Garafolo reported on Wednesday that Chazz Surratt, who was let go by the San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday, is joining the Seahawks’ active roster.

Surratt is 28 years old and a former third-round pick out of the University of North Carolina. He spent only one season with the Minnesota Vikings before he was waived in 2022. Surratt was signed to the New York Jets practice squad and spent three seasons with the team, playing in 32 games. Surratt was signed by the 49ers in May but obviously didn’t make it past final roster cuts.

Almost all of Surratt’s regular season defensive snaps came in 2024, when he appeared in every game and recorded 28 tackles, two tackles for loss, and a quarterback hit in 137 snaps. The bulk of his game action has been on special teams, with over 600 snaps in four seasons.

Between Surratt and former Los Angeles Rams cornerback Derion Kendrick (who was claimed off waivers), Seattle needs to remove two players from its current active roster to make room for them.
