Seattle has signed former Ravens offensive lineman Sala Aumavae-Laulu to a future deal
The Seattle Seahawks have signed offensive lineman, Sala Aumavae-Laulu to a reserve/future deal.
The Alaska native is entering his third year in the league, after coming into the NFL out of Oregon. Aumavae-Laulu mostly started for the Ducks as a right tackle, however, saw some time at right guard as well. Aumavae-Laulu impressed at right tackle, enough to earn him All-Pac 12 honorable mention during his senior year. After three years at Oregon, Aumavae-Laulu was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the sixth round, 199th overall (hello Tom Brady pick.) During his time with the Ravens, Aumavae-Laulu was inactive for every game as a rookie before spending most of 2024 on the practice squad. However, he did log two regular season appearances last season, seeing seven special teams’ snaps.
As with all reserve/future signing, Aumavae-Laulu will be battling for a spot on the 53-man roster later this summer. The Seahawks currently have four offensive tackles on the 2025 roster (Charles Cross, Abe Lucas, George Fant, and Mike Jerrell), with Stone Forsythe set to hit free agency. However, questions remain at this position; Lucas with his injury woes, Fant a prime cap casualty candidate, and Jerrell who is still very raw. All of this is to say that any depth Seattle can add at the offensive tackle position is helpful, especially a player like Aumavae-Laulu who can slide into guard as well.
Another piece to note with this signing. This is the first offensive line signing with the new offensive line coach, John Benton (who just got hired to the position today). This signing will likely be nothing more than a camp body at offensive tackle. However, considering Aumavae-Laulu’s draft pedigree, flexibility to play tackle and guard, and his ties to the pacific northwest (Alaska/University of Oregon), this is one of the more intriguing reserve/future signings.
