The Seattle Seahawks are switching things up for their preseason finale against the Green Bay Packers.
Following Thursday’s joint scrimmage in Green Bay, Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald told reporters that third-round rookie quarterback Jalen Milroe will not only start on Saturday, he’ll be getting all of the reps.
Milroe played the entire second half against the Las Vegas Raiders in the preseason opener, with Drew Lock starting the first half. Against the Kansas City Chiefs, Sam Darnold had one series before Lock came in the remainder of the first half and the opening series of the second half, followed by Milroe for the remainder of the game. Milroe went 9/15 for 107 yards in his previous two appearances, rushing for an additional 56 yards on eight attempts. While he hasn’t accounted for any touchdowns yet, he did lead TD drives in both games.
Throughout training camp and preseason, Milroe has played with what would constitute the third-team reserves, with one QB sneak behind the first-team offensive line on the opening drive against the Chiefs. It’s expected that the starters are sitting out the Packers game, but we should expect Milroe to play with at least the second-teamers for the first time.
So for those who were worried about Milroe not getting enough developmental snaps in preseason, this should be delightful news to read.
