The Seattle Seahawks released their preseason depth chart on Monday. We must stress that this is unofficial and not indicative of what the regular season will look like after the roster is cut down to 53 players. It’s also a little out of date after the Seahawks released running back Donovan Kaufman and outside linebacker Seth Coleman. Running back Anthony Tyus, linebacker Michael Dowell, and long snapper Zach Triner are all on the team for now, however short-lived it may be for them.
To read this depth chart, go from left to right and then from left to right again when a new row is created. For example, Cooper Kupp would be listed as a starter, Jake Bobo as his backup, Cody White as Kupp’s backup, and Ricky White III behind White. An “OR” indicates there is no concrete starter at the position, as we see at center for Olu Oluwatimi and Jalen Sundell.
If you notice, almost all of the rookies are buried on the depth chart. George Holani ahead of Damien Martinez and Eric Saubert over Elijah Arroyo will likely raise eyebrows, but the Seahawks are giving very little away in terms of how they feel about most of their draft picks.
Special teams returners appear to be Steven Sims and Tory Horton, which checks out based on the actual practices. They’ve had Zach Charbonnet, Dareke Young, Damarion Williams, and even Jake Bobo all take turns fielding and returning kicks (especially with Kenny McIntosh out for the year), but Sims and Horton look like the clear-cut favorites.
We’re going to find out a lot more about the Seahawks’ depth chart over the next few weeks, so this is just a nice tool to have but it’s not the be-all, end-all.
