Field Gulls

It’s time for Seattle Seahawks Reacts! The confidence poll is standard and I am curious to know if we can break this poll and have over 100 percent in the results.
This week sees the Seahawks return home to play the Arizona Cardinals, who took Seattle to the brink back in Week 4. A comfortable 20-6 lead became a 20-20 tie, only for the Seahawks to walk the Cardinals off in Glendale. It’ll be Jacoby Brissett and not Kyler Murray as the starter for Arizona in the short and long term, so Kyler has a reprieve given his struggles in the stadium. Will Seattle follow its romp of the Washington Commanders with another W over Arizona? If so, what will the final score margin be? Or, perhaps this is a “trap game” ahead of the huge Los Angeles Rams showdown. Just something to think about.
The main question of the week is once again about Jaxon Smith-Njigba. After eight catches for 129 yards, JSN has an astonishing 948 yards through only eight games. For reference, the NFL record for receiving yards in a season is 1,964 by the great Calvin Johnson. ‘Megatron’ tore opposing defenses apart in the 2012 season, but the Detroit Lions were 4-12 and were forced to pass a whopping 740 times. The Seahawks are 30th in attempts and yet JSN is comfortably the top receiver in terms of yards. Unlike Megatron, JSN has the benefit of a 17-game regular season, but it’s possible he may not need it. And if he does, who cares? We had 14-game regular seasons before we had 16, and we may have 18 games very soon.
Will JSN break Johnson’s record? This is a simple “yes or no” question, and obviously tying the record does not break the record. It’ll be interesting to see how his targets will be affected by the Rashid Shaheed acquisition.
