Field Gulls
The game designations for the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams have been made, and while the good news is Seattle only has one player declared out for Thursday’s possible division title decider, the bad news is that player is facing a multi-week injury.
Left tackle Charles Cross was always going to be a longshot to play after injuring his hamstring on Seattle’s game-winning field goal over the Indianapolis Colts, so it’s no shock that he’s confirmed to be out for Thursday. What is a bigger deal is the likelihood that he won’t be back until the playoffs, assuming the Seahawks don’t have an all-timer of a collapse.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport says Cross’ injury is minimum two weeks and up to four, which would put the rest of his regular season in jeopardy.
The Seahawks have been fortunate to have tremendous offensive line continuity almost all season. Other than Cross, only center Jalen Sundell has missed time due to injury.
Cross will be replaced by Josh Jones, a swing tackle who can play either side and even suit up at guard if needed. His first start of the season is against a dangerous Rams defensive front in one of Seattle’s most important regular season games in years.
