Thankfully, his injury doesn’t appear to be serious.
The Seattle Seahawks opened up training camp on Wednesday, albeit with one rotational defensive player unable to participate.
The NFL transaction wire confirmed that nose tackle Johnathan Hankins, who was brought back by Seattle this offseason on another one-year deal, was placed on the non-football injury (NFI) list. There’s no reason to panic unless he’s still on the list through the end of preseason, in which case he’d have to miss at least the first four games of the regular season. He can be activated off the injured list as long as he passes a physical.
Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald addressed Hankins’ absence, providing some reasonably good news as far as a return to the lineup.
Hankins recorded an 30 tackles (five tackles for loss), a sack, and an interception while appearing in every regular season game for the Seahawks last season.
The only other players on some form of injury list (NFI or PUP) for the Seahawks are Uchenna Nwosu (PUP) and rookie Rylie Mill (NFI), both of whom are not expected back any time soon after recent injuries and subsequent surgeries.
