Seahawks make series of practice squad moves, release Damien Martinez

It’s not quite a hockey-style line change, but the Seattle Seahawks have made several tweaks to their 17-man practice squad.

Literally a day after being released from the practice squad, 2024 sixth-round pick Sataoa Laumea has returned. The former Utah offensive lineman is joined by outside linebacker Jalan Gaines and defensive tackle Anthony Campbell. All three players were signed to the initial practice squad following roster cuts.

Of course, when three are signed to a full roster, three have to go. Veteran cornerback Shemar Jean-Charles, undrafted rookie offensive tackle Amari Kight, and (perhaps surprisingly) seventh-round rookie running back Damien Martinez were all released.

It’s probably best not to overreact to this news given players released from the practice squad aren’t subject to waivers, so we could see at least Martinez back on the practice squad soon. Reshuffling happens all the time and you’re going to be seeing plenty more of these stories throughout the regular season.

Seattle has Tuesday off and will return to practice on Wednesday as preparation for Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers.
