Field Gulls
Here we are folks, Week 18 in the 2025 NFL season. After this week, 18 of the league’s teams will not see the light of day in full pads until late July. That is not the case with the two teams playing in the primetime slot on Saturday, January 3rd. The Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers will meet to determine the NFC West winner as well as the number one seed and home-field advantage in the NFC ahead of both of their playoff journeys.
Going into this heavyweight matchup, Seattle has elevated running back/kick returner Cam Akers and cornerback Tyler Hall.
Akers has been a journeyman running back over the last few years after playing a significant role for the LA Rams to begin his career. While he has not recorded a rush attempt in the 2025 season (Ken Walker and Zach Charbonnet have handled most of those), Akers is cashing in his third and final elevation this year. He showed up in the box score in returning two kickoffs against the Panthers in Seattle’s win in the previous week.
Tyler Hall has been a Seahawks practice squad player the last couple of years after playing minor roles with the Raiders, Rams and Falcons. If active, this will be Hall’s Seahawks debut. With Coby Bryant dealing with injury and D’Anthony Bell getting claimed off of waivers at the safety position, Seattle could need to move players around and tap into depth if push comes to shove.
Happy Gameday, 12’s!
