Field Gulls
For those wondering about the future of second-year right guard Christian Haynes, it looks as if a return to the active roster is imminent.
The Seattle Seahawks announced that Haynes, who was placed on injured reserve back in August with a pec injury, has been designated for return to practice ahead of Wednesday’s practice for the Washington Commanders game. Haynes dealt with a separate pec issue that kept him out of a few training camp practices, including the annual scrimmage at Lumen Field.
Haynes will have 21 days from today (Oct. 29) to be activated to the 53-man roster, otherwise he’ll revert to injured reserve.
There was excitement over the addition of Haynes in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He was poised to compete with Anthony Bradford for the starting right guard job, but not only did he not become the starter, his rotating playing time with Bradford stopped early in the season. When Bradford went down with an ankle injury in November, Bradford was passed over for Sataoa Laumea, who is currently not on an NFL roster.
Haynes appeared to be nowhere nearer to starting over Bradford even during this year’s training camp, and he had some underwhelming reps at center. With Bradford once again struggling to perform adequately along what is an otherwise improved Seahawks offensive line, there may be hope rekindled that Haynes could get onto the field at some point this season.
Seattle also separately announced that Velus Jones Jr has signed to the practice squad, with running back Myles Gaskin released in a corresponding move.
