The Seattle Seahawks could be without one of their key defenders when they face the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 2.

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ job on offense may be a little bit easier than previously thought when they take on the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2.

According to Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times, Seahawks star cornerback Devon Witherspoon popped up on Wednesday’s injury report after sitting out practice with a knee injury. Witherspoon went down in Week 1 late in the fourth quarter, but he was able to return to play the rest of the game.

Seattle may just be acting out of caution, but if the team is without Witherspoon come Sunday, it would certainly set up a potentially big game for Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf, who he would likely assume the duty of covering.

Witherspoon has been impressive since being selected with the No. 5 overall pick in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, recording 185 tackles, four sacks, two forced fumbles, 25 passes defensed, one interception and one touchdown in 32 games.

However, without Witherspoon, Metcalf may just get the revenge game many believe he is capable of.

“Our practice reps going against each other, we have history,” Metcalf said. “Just the way they play the game, I know Coach Macdonald is going to have them ready. Whatever scheme they play, they’ll play it to the best of their ability.”

Metcalf impressed in his Steelers debut, reeling in four of his seven targets for a team-high 83 yards. He may just have an even bigger outing against the Seahawks if Witherspoon can’t get healthy enough in time for kickoff.

Seahawks rookie safety Nick Emmanwori also did not practice with an ankle injury while linebacker Ernest Jones (shoulder), safety Julian Love (groin), defensive tackle Jarran Reed (back) and wide receiver Dareke Young (hamstring) were all limited.
