The Seattle Seahawks announced on Wednesday that running back coach Kennedy Polamalu has taken a leave of absence from the team for an undisclosed amount of time.

Polamalu – uncle to Pro Football Hall of Fame player Troy Polamalu – was hired by the team in Mike Macdonald’s first year after serving with the Las Vegas Raiders and Minnesota Vikings.

Taking over his duties for the time being are Justin Outten and Michael Byrne. Outten came to the Seahawks this offseason as part of the Klint Kubiak and John Benton offensive staff overhaul. He’s been serving as the run game specialist and assistant offensive line coach. Byrne is an offensive assistant in his second year in the NFL.

Polamalu earned a game ball in November after Seattle defeated the Arizona Cardinals 44-22.

According to Tom Pelissero, Polamalu is stepping away from coaching for the time being and may perform other duties for the team. No reason has been given yet for the absence other than personal, and we wish Polamalu all the best in the days ahead.
