After more than seven months of waiting, only a week and a half remains until the Seattle Seahawks host the San Francisco 49ers at Lumen Field to open the 2025 regular season for both teams.

The Seahawks come into the matchup on a one-game winning streak against the Niners, having finally upended San Francisco after falling to the division rivals six times in a row. However, Seattle does not enter without potential holes in the roster, and as he does almost every year, general manager set about to see if any of those holes could be addressed by players available on the waiver wire.

With expectations that the Seahawks would go for an inside linebacker or a nose tackle due to the lack of depth on the initial 53-man roster, Seattle went a different route. The Seahawks claimed former Los Angeles Rams cornerback Derion Kendrick.

Kendrick was drafted in the sixth round back in 2022, making 18 starts over his first two seasons before missing all of 2024 with a torn ACL in training camp. He was cut this offseason before re-signing with the team, only to be waived again.

His name may be familiar to Seahawks fans, as his only career interception came off of Drew Lock in LA’s 17-16 win over Seattle back in 2023.

Seattle already has five cornerbacks on the roster—Riq Woolen, Devon Witherspoon, Josh Jobe, Nehemiah Pritchett, and Shaquill Griffin—and will need to make a corresponding move to get Kendrick on the squad.
