Field Gulls
The Seattle Seahawks are adding more depth to their practice squad before their Week 11 showdown with the NFC West rival Los Angeles Rams.
Seattle signed rookie defensive tackle Wy’Kevious “Bubba” Thomas to their practice squad, according to a Tuesday post on social media from NFL insider Aaron Wilson. Thomas played his college ball at South Alabama, becoming an All-Sun Belt Conference selection in four of his five seasons as a Jaguar before going undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The Seahawks signed Thomas as an undrafted free agent in the spring, and he spent the preseason with the team. Thomas totaled seven tackles across the three games, with his best performance coming against the Green Bay Packers.
Standing at 6-foot-2 and 303 pounds, Thomas was never a star pass rusher in college, only recording 7.5 sacks in his career. However, he totaled 174 tackles in 64 games during his time at South Alabama, including starting in every game during both his junior and senior seasons. The durability could give us a clue as to why the Seahawks picked him up after the team placed Jarran Reed on IR last Saturday.
No corresponding move to free up room for Thomas on the practice squad was required. The team had a pair of free practice squad spots after promoting Cody White and Quinton Bohanna to the 53 man roster Saturday ahead of thumping the Arizona Cardinals Sunday afternoon, meaning there is still one spot left to be filled.
The Seahawks also worked out two veterans as potential additions to the practice squad, cornerback Tyler Hall and guard Nick Leverett.
Hall is seeking a third stint with the Seahawks, after spending three days on the practice squad in 2024 and after being released by the team in August. The veteran corner hasn’t seen significant playing time since 2022, when he was a key depth piece for the Las Vegas Raiders.
Leverett was recently let go from the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad on Nov. 5 after spending the past year in the desert. An undrafted free agent out of Rice, he has also spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots during his career.
