The Seahawks came incredibly close to winning in walk-off fashion against the 49ers on Sunday afternoon, but a late Sam Darnold fumble forced by 49ers edge rusher Nick Bosa quickly put their comeback attempt to rest with 42 seconds left in the game. After quarterback Brock Purdy threw a touchdown with 1:34 on the clock, Darnold and the offense marched right down the field aided by a 40-yard catch-and-run by Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Three plays later, Darnold was stripped and the 49ers knelt out the clock to seal their 17-13 win at home in Santa Clara.
In his first start for the Seahawks, Darnold completed 16-of-23 passes for 150 yards and no scores or picks. Running back Zach Charbonnet led the ground attack with 47 yards and a score while Smith-Njigba caught nine passes for 124 yards.
Defensively, defensive back Julian Love led the way with 10 tackles and a sack. Ernest Jones IV and Josh Jobe each picked off a pass, as well.
The Seahawks will travel to Pittsburgh to face the Steelers in Week Two on September 14.
