For 15 years, football fans have tuned in ‘NFL RedZone’ in anticipation of “seven hours of commercial-free football.” For all 15 of those years, the voice behind those words and the following seven hours of NFL highlights was the one and only Scott Hanson. But in 2025, that will no longer be the cases.

Hanson’s contract with NFL media expired following the completion of the 2024-25 NFL regular season, and now it appears he’s off to greener pastures. Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports reports that negotiations between NFL Media and Hanson have stalled. In the wake of that fact, Hanson has reportedly begun negotiating with NBCUniversal.

“NBC is eying Hanson to return as Gold Zone’s primary prime-time host for the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics and possibly the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympics,” McCarthy reports.

Hanson served as the lead host of NBC Sports Gold Zone during the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“Scott brought his inimitable enthusiasm and energy to Gold Zone. NFL fans loved watching him transfer his ‘all-in’ mentality from football Sundays to the Paris Olympics,” NBC Olympic production president Molly Solomon told Front Office Sports following the Olympics. “Each of our four hosts brought his own unique personality to the show, and Scott was certainly a key contributor to our process of re-imagining how Gold Zone could be experienced and consumed going forward.”

Scott Hanson Potentially Leaving ‘NFL RedZone’ Comes At Interesting Time

Meanwhile, ESPN is set to take over operations of NFL Media and NFL RedZone’ in 2025 after the league purchased an equity stake in the sports media giant. That could well mean that the mothership is more interested in installing its own talent as the face of ‘RedZone*.’*

Unsurprisingly, football fans were not overly pleased with the news.

“Losing Scott Hanson on redzone would be a tragedy,” one fan tweeted.

“If Scott Hanson leaves RedZone, then that takes a huge hit to RedZone,” said another.

Hanson is clearly a beloved part of the show. But the show must go on, regardless of who the host becomes.
