ESPN insider Peter Schrager is not convinced Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders will be the second quarterback off the board.
The belief around the NFL is that Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders will be the second quarterback selected in the 2025 NFL Draft. But ESPN insider Peter Schrager doesn’t think that’s necessarily a done deal.
“I don’t think it’s a sure thing that Shedeur is the second quarterback taken,” Schrager said on “The Pat McAfee Show.” “I would assume that’s going to happen. I don’t see Jaxson Dart or (Tyler) Shough or (Jalen) Milroe going before Shedeur. But anything can happen with this class.”

Sanders is an intriguing prospect after throwing for 7,364 yards, 64 touchdowns and 13 interceptions over the past two seasons at Colorado.
However, some NFL talent evaluators have major concerns about Sanders. That could cause him to fall much further than expected.
“I don’t know where Shedeur Sanders goes,” Schrager said. “I don’t have a certain team raising their hand saying, ‘Hey, if Shedeur falls, that’s our place.’ And that’s a prospect we’re talking about consistently.”
The team that would likely stop Sanders’ potential slide is the quarterback-needy Pittsburgh Steelers, who have just Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson under contract for 2025.
The Steelers are still waiting on free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers to make a decision on if and where he wants to play in 2025, but if he doesn’t make his decision by the draft, they could make it for him.
Pittsburgh is clearly interested in Sanders after hosting him for a pre-draft visit to UPMC Rooney Sports Complex last week and head coach Mike Tomlin reportedly came away very impressed.
“He had a really good meeting with Pittsburgh last week and that lasted like five hours,” Schrager said. “That, to me, seems like a good backstop. If worse comes to worse for Shedeur, 21 would be a really nice place for him to go. It would be a really good situation, considering the weapons, the organization, the culture, the city, of course.”
Sanders shared that sentiment after his visit with the Steelers and warned teams to not make the mistake of letting him fall to Pittsburgh. It may turn out that’s exactly what happens.
