Schefter: Steelers Were Outbid for Targeted Wide Receiver

The Pittsburgh Steelers made an attempt to land wide receiver Jakobi Meyers from the Las Vegas Raiders, but Omar Khan’s best offer fell short of the deal the Jacksonville Jaguars made to land the big-play receiver.

The Jaguars sent fourth- and sixth-round picks to the Raiders to land Meyers, who will become a free agent this offseason.

According to a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN, Khan had been in talks with the Raiders, but was outbid by Jaguars general manager James Gladstone.

“Pittsburgh expressed some interest in Jakobi Meyers, but obviously Jacksonville really stepped up to get something done here,” Schefter said in an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday. “Those are the two teams, I think, that really wanted to add Meyers to their roster.”

Meyers, who signed a three-year deal with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023, was most frequently associated with Pittsburgh. The thought was that he would be a complementary WR2 across from DK Metcalf.

The seventh-year veteran is considered more of a route-running, separation specialist who would pair well with Metcalf’s explosive playmaking. His contract would have been cheap for this season. The question was draft capital cost.

For now, the Steelers’ options are limited if they want to continue to add to the receivers room. Players like Jaylen Waddle and Calvin Ridley have been linked to a Pittsburgh trade with a wide range of projected compensation.

It remains to be seen if the Steelers missed out on a big opportunity for Meyers. The deadline comes to a close at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
