The Pittsburgh Steelers are still seeking a trade at the wide receiver position, accordion to a report on Monday by Adam Schefter of ESPN.
The Steelers have been linked to a wide receiver move for two straight seasons, dating back to their trade of Diontae Johnson in the spring of 2024, and continuing after the team traded George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys in May.
Though general manager Omar Khan was unable to swing a trade before the start of the season both last summer and this year, he added Mike Williams at the trade deadline in 2024, and appears to be in the market to look for another addition this fall.
“There will be trades made this week, because there were trades made last week,” Schefter said in an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show on Monday. “You’ve got the Chargers looking for a running back, the Steelers looking for a receiver, the Eagles are always looking for help. The Browns, alternately, are buyers and sellers.”
The Steelers played shorthanded at the wide receiver position this week, as Calvin Austin III was held out with a shoulder injury. With a short week upcoming, there’s no guarantee that Austin will return this Thursday against the Cincinnati Bengals. With him out of the lineup, Aaron Rodgers had just one target to a wide receiver other than primary outside starter DK Metcalf. By the time Austin returns, the Nov. 4 trade deadline will be right around the corner.
Of course, the Steelers likely hope they’ll be able to do a better job of integrating any new acquisition to their offense than they did Williams last season, who finished with just nine catches.
As for who the Steelers might be targeting at the position in a trade, Schefter did not say, though Jakobi Meyers of the Las Vegas Raiders and Rashid Shaheed of the New Orleans Saints are two players who have been mentioned as potential options on the market.
