Hey Steelers Fans. Welcome to Thursday!

The Kickoff

All is well if you’re a Pittsburgh Steelers’ fan. The team has gathered in Latrobe and today they will take the fields of St. Vincent College in preparation for the long season ahead. The only significant note if you will from yesterday’s arrival is that Isaac Seumalo is going to be unavailable for a while. Mike Tomlin stated his injury is not considered serious. Frankly, if I had to pick a guy from the starting five on the OL who had to miss some time it would be him.

He’s the most experienced (by far) guy on the O-Line and will need the least amount of time in terms of reps and preparedness. Other than him, everyone arrived in tip-top shape. I’m also happy to report that Aaron Rodgers didn’t try to hit the blocking sled yesterday as Russell Wilson did last year. That resulted in a calf injury that cost him the first six games of the season.

The Podcast

We are LIVE tonight at 10pmET on the SCB Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing Inc! We’ll welcome in the new season, discuss all of the positions and talk about all things Steelers as we are underway in 2025!

A Good Lesson…

One of my many “Steelers Rules to Live By” relates to buying jerseys. The rule is this; never get a jersey of a player on his first contract. Why? Because no matter how well that rookie or second season may go, there’s no guarantee that player will get a second contract. Here are your prime examples. Kenny Pickett, Chase Claypool, Najee Harris, George Pickens and Mike Wallace. The list actually has more members. In other words, it’s always a good idea to wait until the player is established.

He’s Absolutely Correct

Mike DeFabo of “The Athletic” has an article today about T.J. Watt and his belief that Omar Khan can help get him an elusive postseason victory. DeFabo referenced a comment that Watt made before the postseason loss to Baltimore. In it, Watt said there’s a difference between the former players who have won a Super Bowl and those who haven’t. He’s right and I’ve heard other players say the same thing. There’s just a different vibe no matter how good the player was. Those that have a ring are accepted differently. That’s what Watt is chasing.

Friday Night Lights

The Steelers annual practice under the Friday Night Lights will be a week from tomorrow, August 1st. It’s always well-attended but it’s worth it just to see the huge guys walk off a school bus. Seriously, that’s how they get over to the high school.
