Hey Steelers Fans. Welcome to Tuesday.
July 8th is a very significant date for you. Actually for two reasons and they both have to do with birthdays. First, today is the 92nd birthday of the Pittsburgh Steelers. It was on this date in 1933 that Art Rooney took ownership. Secondly and perhaps fittingly, this is the 73rd birthday of Jack Lambert. The four-time Super Bowl Champion and Hall of Famer, epitomized what being a Pittsburgh Steeler was all about. If you had asked me to name a player that would share a birthday with the franchise, the only other option would have been Mean Joe Greene. While our frustrations of late have been high, being a Pittsburgh Steelers’ fan is truly an honor. It’s something I never take for granted.
As we do every July, our Position previews are underway. We take a look at each position group heading into Training Camp. What does each player offer? How do they make the roster? And much more!
Challenging…
Most of you are aware that Mike Tomlin isn’t exactly “stellar” when it comes to throwing the red challenge flag. Scarps did a little research to see where he ranked in terms of successful challenges. I would have guessed that Reid was a lot lower and as for Coach T? We know that has to get better right?
I still think Steelers’ GM Omar Khan is looking for talent in a couple of different places. I’m not 100% sold on the idea that Jonnu Smith’s edition means they won’t look to add a true number two wide receiver. I’m also curious about the offensive line. I can see a veteran tackle being brought in at some point because the depth behind Broderick Jones and Troy Fautanu (both of whom are unproven in my book) is not good. Injuries will happen in Camp and those will likely dictate any further additions or needs.
You’ll notice that today’s feature image has Mr. Aaron Rodgers on the cover. That is the work of our resident graphics man Aaron who has made several new ones for ‘Hot Reads.’ He has also updated our Podcast intro video as the old one featured Minkah Fitzpatrick, George Pickens and Najee Harris – three guys who are no longer here. Anyway, thanks as always Aaron!
I do not care what your politics are just as you don’t care what mine are. I look at what has happened in Texas Hill Country and it’s horrifying and beyond sad. There is no room for political grandstanding… Over 100 people are dead including many children. I was fortunate as a child and as a young man to spend some time in Hill Country. I knew its beauty and many of the places that have been affected. Keep the people there in mind, not the politics.
The Lake Tahoe Celebrity Golf Tournament is this coming weekend...
