Hey Steelers Fans. Welcome to Monday.
And now back to your regularly scheduled program… As quickly as it started the World Cup is over. We can now return to calling stadiums SoFi, Lincoln Financial and Hard Rock instead of the generic names they were called for the last month. You know, FIFA advertising rules and so on… We will likely not hear anymore about the natural surfaces that were used in these stadiums because “player safety” really is just a phrase to avoid lawsuits. We can now go back to not seeing the insufferable Alexi Lalas who I hope has done his final gigs on FOX. We can go back to commercials that don’t feature David Beckham all the time. We can return to the politicization of American sports rather than the politicization of global sports as we observed for the last month. Most of all however, we can return to the fact that the Pittsburgh Steelers will be back in less than two weeks.
Ian and I handled the duties this week with Ben and Scarps unavailable. What we thought would be a relatively short show turned out to go 90 minutes and we had some great discussions and some wild topics as well. From position previews to major questions facing the team, I’ve got plenty of content for you in regards to Steelers Training Camp 2026.
I alluded to it above but it’s pretty darn clear the majority of NFL players prefer to play on natural grass. The disappointing part is that I don’t see it happening. NFL owners are not going to want to deal with the cost and overall maintenance of natural grass in their domed or “roofed” stadiums. For the Steelers, playing on natural grass isn’t an issue. Art Rooney II has insisted that the team continue to play home games on that which nature provides. If the Rooney’s were going to go to any expense I would suggest investing in an underground system similar to that of Green Bay. Or… build PITT a stadium.
I don’t “hate” soccer – my son is entering the final year of his college soccer career – but there is a lot I don’t like about it. Let’s just say I’m a traditionalist… Can you imagine the losing players in the next Super Bowl behaving the way Argentina did yesterday? Totally embarrassing… I have a piece on T.J. Watt coming up later today… Not sure how you couldn’t root for Ryan Fox yesterday. The 39-year old from New Zealand birdied that last hole to win The Open. He plays golf the way it should be. Line it up, take a breath and hit it. Very refreshing to see… The NY Giants are going to be fun to watch this year. John Harbaugh trying to keep a lid...
