Hey Steelers Fans. Welcome to Monday!
We are roughly 24 hours from the Pittsburgh Steelers having to set their 53-man roster for 2025. This of course is actually quite humorous seeing as the roster will likely change numerous times in the days that follow. I threw together our projections for the roster for your reading enjoyment… There has already been a flurry of activity across the league with players being traded and many being already cut. If you’re one of those “What is Omar doing?!?!?!” people, just relax. There will be additions and subtractions as always but you shouldn’t expect some sort of “big name player” to be joining the team. Rarely does that happen this time of year. But, as I always say, never say “never.”
From the ‘Regina George Department’ of “It’s not gonna happen!” I offer this… Everyone, including myself, has suggested that Skylar Thompson has played well enough to warrant being the team’s number three QB but could be trade bait. This idea was floated by Cliff, one of our Draft experts in our private chat. “What if someone offered a trade for Mason Rudolph? Has Thompson done enough for you to be comfortable with him as the #2?” So first of all, this would be incredibly ‘un-Steeler-like.’ I am intrigued however. Teams like the Raiders, Rams and Lions are really thin in regards to their QB depth right now so I’m sure calls have come in. With Aaron Rodgers’ age and recent injury issues, I don’t see it happening though.
The NFL announced last week that officials were going to be watching for unsportsmanlike conduct even more this year than in previous seasons. I’m told this is largely when it comes to taunting and more specifically, the imagery that may involve a weapon. Brett Keisel, the former Steeler, was once flagged for his ‘bow and arrow’ pose following a sack and that was how many years ago??? This latest call however is about the gun gesture or versions like it. What I found interesting this weekend is that I saw two college players do it without so much as a mention let alone a flag. Seems like something they’d want consistency on across the board.
The good news regarding Derrick Harmon is that his knee sprain will likely mean he misses just week one in New York. That’s the most positive outcome. Either way, his absence is going to create problems for the depth of this unit. I’d love to believe that Cam Heyward will once again have an all-pro season but he’s also done far less in this Camp than in previous ones. Teryl Austin will have to be very judicious with his rotations. Having to rely on Logan Lee or Isaiahh Loudermilk for any length of time is not an ideal situation.
College Football is off and running. Is it wrong that I am looking more...
