SCB Steelers Hot Reads – Be Careful Cam

SCB Steelers Hot Reads – Be Careful Cam
Steel City Blitz Steel City Blitz

Hey Steelers Fans. Welcome to Wednesday.

The Kickoff

Maybe it’s just my advanced age and memories of Franco Harris going to Seattle or something similar but either way, I’ve learned to be objective in contract situations. In terms of the current Cam Heyward hullabaloo, that’s exactly the approach we should all be taking. Yet there are fans siding with the team or siding with Heyward. Some even requesting the team cut his brother Connor and use his salary to give Cam more money. Yeah, it’s crazy out there kids… Cam however, needs to be careful. He was rather vocal about Aaron Rodgers taking his time to sign a deal with the Steelers and that’s been used against him several times in the last few days. The old saying in professional sports is that you never put your mouth on another man’s money. While Cam has long been a fan favorite and deeply loved by Steeler Nation, he needs to tread lightly here whether he thinks so or not.

Who Should Be Discussed More…

If you really want to talk about a guy who has a gripe for a new deal it’s Chris Boswell. The long-time Steelers’ kicker is also coming off an All-Pro season and is paid below other kickers that he is most certainly better than.

The Latest Podcast

Episode 434 of the SCB Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing Inc will air LIVE Thursday night at 10pmET. We’ll cover all of the latest as the Steelers closed up Camp at St. Vincent College yesterday. We’ll have thoughts on Cam of course and we will no doubt dive into the good and bad of last week’s preseason opener in Jacksonville. Stop by! Like and Subscribe!

Injury Issues

Calvin Austin III is dealing with an abdominal issue which explains his current absence from practice… Alex Highsmith is making his way back from his latest groin injury. He did some light to moderate running yesterday as he ramps back up towards participation. I’m guessing we won’t see him until the opening game at the earliest… Aaron Rodgers had his calf wrapped yesterday (someone may have stepped on him). I’m told this was more precautionary than anything else. And no, he had not been pushing the sled prior.

Joint Practices

As the Steelers pack their belongings and drive West back to Pittsburgh, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be waiting. They’ve dropped anchor at the confluence and are in town for joint practices and then the preseason contest on Saturday night. Teams seem to be moving towards these combined practices more and more with the removal of a preseason game. The results are often varied. Sometimes you get very good work in and the results are positive. Other times, things get overly competitive and heated and therefore little gets accomplished. I’m going to assume that with two old pros like Mike Tomlin and Todd Bowles that there won’t be much in the way shenanigans.
