We’ve got a Minnesota Vikings game day tomorrow, but first, it’s time for us to get into the results of our SB Nation Reacts poll for this week (and last week). We’ve got a lot to unpack here, so let’s get right to it.
We’ll start with our regular, weekly question about how confident Vikings fans are in the direction of the team. Somehow, during the bye week, a few folks seem to have changed their minds about things.
Of those who responded to our poll, 56% feel that the Vikings are heading in the right direction. That’s down, slightly, from 62% last week. I’m not sure what has changed over the course of the last week, other than the Vikings apparently getting some players back from injury, but we’re just not quite as confident as we were a week ago. Hopefully we’ll see a big jump in this number in next week’s survey.
Next, we asked everyone about the quarterback situation. Both J.J. McCarthy and Carson Wentz have been dealing with injuries, so we asked who will start at quarterback against the Philadelphia Eagles and who should start, assuming both are healthy. This is a bit anticlimactic, given that the Vikings have already announced Wentz as the starter for Sunday, but let’s take a look at what the numbers say anyway.
Before we knew who would start in this one, 56% of the respondents to our poll thought that the Vikings would make the call to go with Wentz. Whether that was because they weren’t confident in McCarthy’s recovery from his high ankle sprain or what the case was, Vikings fans were already leaning towards Wentz starting this week.
So, who do Vikings fans think the team should start at quarterback if and when both of their primary options are healthy?
With the same 56% majority, our respondents said that if both McCarthy and Wentz are healthy, McCarthy should be their starting quarterback. I agree with this sentiment, because the Vikings need to get their answer on McCarthy, and they need it sooner rather than later. I’m not sure when the Vikings will determine that McCarthy has fully recovered, but I’m sure it’s going to be in the next week or two here.
Lastly, we’re going to go back to last week with the results of the question we asked but didn’t get our answer to. We asked you to reevaluate how many wins you thought the Vikings would get now that they’ve gotten five games under their belts, and here are our answers.
The majority of those who responded to our poll feel that the Vikings will come out of this season with a winning record, as 61% believe that the purple will finish with between 9 and 11 wins. Another 32% are not as optimistic, feeling that the Vikings will finish with between six and eight victories, meaning that they think the Vikings could have as few as 3 wins over their final 12 games. I certainly...
