SB Nation Reacts Results: Vikings Fans Split on QB Competition
Daily Norseman Daily Norseman

We’ve got the results from this week’s SB Nation Reacts survey. . .one of our questions, in any event. . .so let’s go ahead and get you those results before the weekend comes to a close, shall we?

Yes, we shall.

Our big question from this past week was whether or not you fine folks thought that the quarterback competition that our Minnesota Vikings are having between J.J. McCarthy and Kyler Murray (and Carson Wentz, I guess, if you believe he’s a part of said competition) was a legitimate one, or if you thought the coaches already knew who they were going to name QB1. The people have spoken, and the results are. . .well, they’re about as close as you can get, which is a bit surprising, at least to me.

Of those who responded to our poll, 51% said they believe that the coaching staff already knows who they’ll be naming the starting quarterback, while 49% say that they think that there’s really an honest-to-goodness quarterback competition happening with our favorite team.

I’d really, really like to believe that the quarterback competition is real. I’m not going to continue beating my “it’s too early to give up on J.J. McCarthy” drum, because you all have heard it already. On the other hand, I’m really not sure what, exactly, Kyler Murray has accomplished for so many people to believe that he should just be named the starter without having any sort of legitimate challenge. I know the criteria for some folks is just “don’t be J.J. McCarthy,” but I’d like to think that there would have to be something beyond that.

In any event, the coaching staff has said that the quarterback competition. . .whether it’s legitimate or not. . .is going to go into training camp next month, so there isn’t going to be a resolution before then. It is quite heartening to know that there are plenty of people who believe that there is actually a legitimate competition happening, and hopefully that’s the case.

We had another question this week, but it appears there was a bit of a mix-up with some of our data, so we will effort to get the results of that question to you in a separate post.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to answer our questions this week! Hopefully we’ll have a few more of these between now and the start of training camp.
