Yesterday, it was Garrett Wilson’s turn to receive a new contract extension from the New York Jets worth over $100 million. Today, it’s Sauce Gardner’s turn to secure a richer future for himself.

Gardner had been set to have a $10.6 million cap hit in 2025, which would have been the second-to-last year of his rookie contract with the Jets. But now he has a new deal, one that makes him the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history.

According to multiple outlets, Gardner is now set to make an annual average salary of $30.1 million per season thanks to signing a four-year, $120.4 million contract extension.

While the Jets are clearly invested in the future of their 24-year-old two-time All-Pro cornerback, the new regime has also placed even higher expectations on the former first-round pick. While Sauce has shown he can be a lockdown defender at times, his new head coach, Aaron Glenn, would like to see Gardner make a stronger effort at tackling ball carriers.

Now armed with a new contract, Gardner will be expected to be even more consistent to live up to his worth. If not, more criticism will follow for one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL today.
