As the expected starter at left guard for the Minnesota Vikings, rookie Donovan Jackson didn’t see a whole lot of action in Saturday’s preseason opener against the Houston Texans. However, he was on the field long enough to give us the best moment of the weekend. . .and that moment took place in the seats at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Twitter user “Vikingzfanpage” shared a video taken by someone in the stands of Donovan Jackson’s parents celebrating as their son took the field on Saturday afternoon. Jackson’s mother, Melanie, was quite happy that the moment was shared for everyone to see.

Someone recorded this moment for me and I am so grateful. To describe how my husband and I felt watching our son take the field for his first professional football game cannot be put into words. It’s a blessing. Just unreal! SKOL!!
What a wonderful moment for the entire Jackson family. I can’t even begin to imagine the feelings that they must have been experiencing as Donovan Jackson took to the field wearing the purple and gold. Obviously, it was a bit overwhelming for his parents, and we got an opportunity to experience at least a small bit of that thanks to social media.
Here’s hoping that this is just the first of many big moments that the Jackson family will be experiencing along with all of us during Donovan’s career in the NFL.
