Saturday Night Open Thread & NFL games: Tell your friend Veronica
Behind the Steel Curtain Behind the Steel Curtain

Live from Delaware, it’s Saturday Night! I, NAS204PSU, am here at BTSC to bring you this Saturday Night Open Thread (aka SNOT).

A two-game win streak after Monday night’s fish fry is just what we needed. It was one of the most relaxing games in my recent memory. This week we take on Detroit, and despite having the same 8-6 record, we’re 7-point underdogs. I’m guessing since we lost to one to the (Bengals) “tigers” and also the Bears, losing to the Lions seems to fit the pattern.

It is important to remember Homer’s Pittsburgh Steelers Laws of Observation, and corollary: Under Tomlin, we’re never as good as we seem nor as bad as we seem.

This 5-pack of questions is here to get the conversation going, so let us know what you’re eating/drinking!

1: Marquez Valdes-Scantling caught a TD in his 2nd game as a Steeler. Do you think this is a sign of things to come from MVS OR is this Mike Williams 2.0 (1TD vs Commanders, then little else)

2: Our last game vs. DET was in 2021 against an 0-8 Lions team. It ended in a tie after an OT during which Diontae Johnson fumbled, then the Lions backup kicker missed a FG, and then Pat Freiermuth fumbled for a truly weird ending. Make a wacky prediction for tomorrow’s game vs the Lions.

3: The Eagles are currently taking on the Commanders in what should be a blowout for the ‘Birds. Green Bay is traveling to the windy city to battle DAH Bears for the NFC north title. Which teams are you rooting for?

4: Today is the 7th night of Hanukkah (Hebrew for “dedication”). It is the Festival of Lights during which the Jewish faithful reflect on light over darkness, resilience, and religious freedom. “Hanukkah Sameach” to all who celebrate. I believe many of us Steeler fans could apply these lessons to our own faith and remember though we may not “fan” the same, we all celebrate the one true team: The Pittsburgh Steelers. Share a memory that you have of the Steelers community coming together.

5. Speaking of holidays, Christmas is less than a week away. Some follow the tradition of leaving milk and cookies out for Santa on Christmas Eve. What’s your own favorite late night snack?
