Saturday Night Open Thread: Lampooned
Behind the Steel Curtain Behind the Steel Curtain

Live from Delaware, it’s Saturday Night! I, NAS204PSU, am here at BTSC to bring you this Saturday Night Open Thread (aka SNOT).

National Lampoon had many funny movies when I was growing up. The older I get, the more sympathetic I am to poor Clark Griswold. All he wanted was for his family to make great memories. My family could have done a sequel called National Lampoon’s Denver vacation on a recent trip. (See Q4&Q5 below).

This 5 pack of questions is here to get the conversation going, so let us know what you’re eating/drinking!

1. FearTheBeard5559 is wondering if it is too early to talk about the preseason. 1)When do you start your preseason pondering?**

2. The Steelers offseason moves are already being graded, but what about the moves they didn’t make? 2) Pick a move the Steelers didn’t do this off season and grade it. (Example: not trading up in 2026 RD1 for a QB is an A.)

3. The Steelers have announced the themes for each game this season. 3**) Do you have a favorite stadium theme night you try to go to (any sport)?

4. On a recent trip to Denver, my brother and I went to a Rockies – Red Sox game ($25 tickets and time just to hang). We witnessed what could have been a viral event: 8 guys in the nose bleeds (one section over and up from us) took off their shirts, started waving them à la terrible towels, and did loud cheers. A few guys joined them, then a few more. When they ran outta empty seats, they moved en masse across the stadium and their numbers continued to swell until they must have had over a hundred. No message, no greater purpose other than “are you loud, drunk, and sweaty? Take off your shirt and join us” The best part was the camera guys giving them a fan shot on the big screen only to cut away to four under 10 boys doing the same thing and going nuts being on camera while their moms died laughing. 4) Have you witnessed any “viral” moments IRL?

5. That same Denver trip (3 generations traveling together) had several moments worthy of National Lampoon:

  • Wife constantly telling her husband to watch his step only for husband to stumble in a crowded square. Wife screaming while husband manages to sit on a planter instead of face planting: EVERYONE in the square staring “WTF?”
  • Train to Pike’s Peak breaking down halfway up the mountain stuck “forever” before backing back down, and finally rushing out of the crowded train to rebook (spoiler: there wasn’t an early enough openings)
  • Some siblings enjoying a short moment of quiet in a hot tub only for a relative to come crashing in and loudly starting trying to start conversations. When told they just wanted some quiet time, the relative starts whispering their questions.
  • Waiting forever at a restaurant, then all food out at once. Instead of...
