Saturday Night Open Thread: Happy 250th Birthday, America!
Behind the Steel Curtain Behind the Steel Curtain

Live from Delaware, it’s Saturday Night! I, NAS204PSU, am here at BTSC to bring you this Saturday Night Open Thread (aka SNOT).

The United States of America celebrates 250 years today! This old girl probably wouldn’t be recognizable to the founding fathers, but she is home to the greatest sports franchise in the world: Our Pittsburgh Steelers! Here’s hoping for 250 more years of freedom and prosperity (and Lombardi #7)!

This 6 pack of questions is here to get the conversation going, so let us know what you’re eating/drinking!

1. As expected, it’s been a slow news week in the NFL offseason, and the Steelers are watching grass grow, literally: Acrisure has installed new Tahoma 31 Bermuda Grass. New HC, new grass, new era.

1A) Do you think the new grass will change the field being blamed for injuries?

1B) W.R.T. lawn maintenance, are you a meticulous agronomist with perfectly striped mower patterns or do you mow it before the neighbors complain?

2. Some guy at ESPN gave out his grades for all 32 teams offseasons. I’d hardly call C+ “shockingly bad” myself, but that’s probably because I’m not the one being graded.

2) Is there any “realistic” move before now and the start of the season that you would give the Black and Gold an A for the entirety of the 2026 offseason?

3. Independence day is a popular day for grilling, and Site Editor Jarret Bailey put a Highlander-style poll out: Burger or Hotdog: THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE! Personally, I think there are a lot more grilled meat selections out there to consider, so I’m expanding the options for this question:

3) You can pick only one to grill for a cookout. Bonus points for seasoning/recipes suggestions.

A) Burger

B) Hot Dog

C) BBQ Chicken

D) Sausage of your choice (brat, kielbasa, etc)

E) Beef Brisket

F) BBQ Pork Ribs

G) Other — write it in!

4) It’s the 4th of July! How are you celebrating Independence Day today?

5) What’s the most patriotic movie/TV show scene? I’m putting the front runner right here: Independence Day (1996) – The President’s Speech

6) Do you have a favorite 4th of July Memory OR tell us about the best fireworks you’ve ever seen (4th related or otherwise)?

Song of the Night: The Star Spangled Banner – Jimi Hendrix
