The San Francisco 49ers haven’t had Brock Purdy for two games, but it hasn’t prevented them from starting the season strong, at 4-2. With their Pro Bowl QB set to return soon, the 49ers have to feel good about their chances to contend for a playoff spot after missing out in 2024. Yet, that doesn’t mean the 49ers don’t have needs.
Specifically, the Niners are looking to fill a gigantic void left behind by Nick Bosa’s season-ending injury. Though, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, San Francisco views Cincinnati Bengals pass-rusher Trey Hendrickson as an “ideal fit.” But there’s no guarantee the Bengals will trade their All-Pro.
Hendrickson led the NFL with 17.5 sacks last season, and he’s already up to four sacks through six games. The 30-year-old is only under contract through the rest of the year, so if the Bengals’ 2-4 season continues to spiral out of control, their stance could change.
Thus, if the 49ers can maintain their momentum, there could be a path to another blockbuster trade before the NFL trade deadline. After all, 49ers GM John Lynch has pulled it off before, like when they landed Christian McCaffrey in 2022, and he’s been there ever since.
