The San Francisco 49ers are entering 2025 under new-look terms. The NFC outfit has made a significant move on the media side, introducing a new reporter earlier this month.

As of Tuesday, they’ve made another move, this time for the roster, signing veteran quarterback Nate Sudfeld to a one-year deal, adding depth behind starting QB Brock Purdy.

The Niners are linked to a blockbuster trade for running back Brian Robinson Jr. after losing Ameer Abdullah for the 2025 campaign.

However, according to their official website, they have chosen to focus on the signal-caller position for now, acquiring Sudfeld.

According to NBC Sports Bay Area, backup Mac Jones hasn’t practiced after appearing to bang up his knee on Saturday, which is of significant concern.

Nate Sudfeld Is Already Very Familiar With The 49ers Offense

Sudfeld, who spent time with the team in 2021, is back on a short-term deal that should better cushion any serious injuries.

The 30-year-old is a Super Bowl winner. He earned his ring with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017, serving as a backup to Carson Wentz and Nick Foles during their title-winning season. He has since gone on to play for the Detroit Lions and the Niners.

His return implies that the team was looking to add depth with a player who is already familiar with its playbook.

Nate Sudefeld has made six appearances since being drafted as a sixth-round pick by the Washington Commanders in 2016, making 25 of 37 passing attempts for 188 yards and one touchdown.
