The San Francisco 49ers have added more depth to their wide receiver room, bringing in former 1,000-yard receiver Robbie Chosen.
On Sunday, the 49ers announced that they have signed Robby Chosen (formerly Robbie Anderson) and released fellow wide receiver Marquez Callaway. The latter was just signed by the 49ers earlier this week.
Chosen joined the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent in 2016, emerging as one of the league’s top deep threats in 2017 (63 catches for 941 yards and seven touchdowns). He had a career year for the Carolina Panthers in 2021, catching 95 passes for 1,096 yards and three scores.

Carolina handed Robbie Chosen a two-year contract extension worth $29.5 million in the 2021 offseason. But he hasn’t come close to repeating the star-like production we saw from 2017 to 2020, where he exceeded the 50-catch and 700-yard marks in four straight years.
The 32-year-old Chosen started the 2024 season with the Miami Dolphins but was released after two game appearances.
If there’s a coach and a team that might revive Robbie Chosen’s career, it could be Kyle Shanahan’s San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers offense is built around speed and pre-snap motions, and a deep threat like Chosen could draw favorable matchups with opposing teams focused on Brandon Aiyuk, Christian McCaffrey and George Kittle.
